The Macallan distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie in Moray in the north-east of Scotland. The Macallan Distillers Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Edrington. Originally, the Macallan was matured only in oak sherry casks.
Pedro Ximénez is a very dark sherry. If the whisky is not matured for the full time in the PX cask, but is only post-matured for a few years, the maturation tends to produce lighter golden or amber tones. This cask was filled in 2020 with the Macallan liquid.
The Macallan is generally considered to be the second or third highest-selling single- malt scotch, next to Glenfiddich and by some accounts, Glenlivet.
This is an opportunity to purchase a Token of a very rare Macallan Cask from Meta Dram. The Token is for 7 litres of liquid and there are 20 tokens available.
Based on Similar Independent Bottling’s
To provide prospective whisky cask owners with an idea of potential returns, we can look at recent sales of independently bottled Macallan whiskies. For example, a 30-year-old Macallan from an independent bottler (like those available from The Whisky Exchange) is typically priced between £2,500 to £4,500 for a 70cl bottle.
When purchasing a Macallan cask through Meta Dram, each token represents 7 litres of liquid, which equates to approximately 10 bottles (70cl each). Based on current retail prices, bottling a cask could yield between £25,000 to £45,000 per token of 7 litres, depending on the bottler and market demand at the time of sale.
Example Calculation:
- Initial Token Purchase: £12,000
- Estimated Retail Price (10 x 70cl): £25,000 to £45,000
- Potential Gross Return: 100% to 275% (based on projected bottle price)

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Meta Dram is an independent bottling company who take rare and exclusive Scotch whiskies and turn them into unique concepts and releases. We look to bridge the gap between the traditional element of the industry and its future capabilities by incorporating technology into our process. Each whisky that we do is registered on a blockchain network, which gives our customer peace of mind that their whisky is fully secured, verifiable, manageable and giving them the option in the future of taking delivery of their whisky or indeed trading it through our blockchain marketplace.
A blockchain is a digitally distributed, decentralized, public ledger that exists across a network.
To apply it to the example of owning a bottle of whisky. Traditionally you would purchase a bottle of whisky either online or in person, have immediate delivery of the bottle and a paper or certificate of purchase. Whilst this method has served the industry in the past, modern technological advances give whisky ownership the chance to move forward opening future avenues for whisky owners. When you purchase a bottle from us it is officially registered and you are provide your token (digital receipt of ownership), which is non refutable.
No. We use Blockchain for its core purpose. We tokenise all Meta Dram whisky in order to prove its existence, ownership, security and future tradability. It is not an NFT.
If you have purchased a whisky that has already been bottled you are able to take delivery of the whisky at your request. If you decide to leave it with us in our secure storage facility it will remain on our blockchain.
If you have purchased a whisky with a future bottling date we provide the date of bottling at purchase. You will be notified leading up to the bottling of your whisky with the options to take delivery or indeed leave it in our secure facility and on our blockchain.
First and foremost, transparency and security. By registering every whisky that comes through our portfolio on the blockchain we are creating a immutable database that gives our customers confidence in their purchase. Furthermore we are futureproofing our customers purchase. Whilst you might want to take delivery of your whisky immediately after being bottled you can still be rest assured that we have registered your ownership of that specific bottle on our database. If, however you are not taking instant delivery you in the future by using our blockchain infrastructure are giving yourself the option of future trading your purchase or indeed just having peace of mind it is secure and traceable.
